Festa Madonna di Valverde 4 - Confraternita Madonna di Valverde

The festival of Our Lady of Valverde is celebrated on the last Sunday of August, but preparations are underway from the beginning of the month. Days on which members of the College of Valverde, respect an ancient tradition, perform the “alms”, i.e. search for offerings are essential to making the liturgical ceremonies more magnificent. Members of the College run throughout the country lanes and squares to collect offerings. The week before the last Sunday of August, the statue of the Virgin Mary is revealed and exhibited on the high altar in the Sanctuary. The statue is brought out of the chapel, where it is kept throughout the year and which is closed on the first Sunday of September. This ceremony formalizes the opening of the festivities in honor of the Blessed Virgin. Remember that the statue is dressed in a gold mantle made in 1855 by the devout in the neighbors that crafted magnificent embroidery on shiny silk fabric. Accompanying the palanquin of Our Lady of Valverde, on its journey to the symbol of the Holy Trinity, are the palanquins of San Michele and San Giuseppe and the virgins dressed in white (young girls that evoke the episode lived by the ancestors, who escaped cruel sacrifice thanks to San Pancrazio). From there, after mass, the procession follows Via Roma to Piazza San Tomaso before returning to its church and after the doffing of the golden simulacrum, ending the day with a fireworks show.
