Itinerary among the master forgeries
Print Friendly
Falso d'autore 3 - Giorgio Franco

In Centuripe there are now over a dozen artisan companies, properly registered at the Chamber of Commerce, which produce antique pottery: replicas of authentic copies, reproduced with formulas, techniques, use of materials and tools of the trade that are linked to a secret tomb and which are passed down from father to son.
The potters in Centuripe have incorporated the experiences of their ancestors, the old potters, who were almost all “grave robbers”, which by illegally digging in the territory of Centuripe, they found and stole ancient artifacts and remnants of thousands of years of Kentoripa. Before putting them on the market, they were restoring and studied to discover the production techniques used over two thousand years ago. By then putting this knowledge in practice, they produced “forgeries”.
The suggested itinerary includes a visit to the Centuripe Regional Archaeological Museum, where you can learn about “original” products from the age-old craft tradition of Centuripe and then visit some shops that produce these famous “forged copies”. One workshop in particular that you can visit is “Ken Art Ceramics” on Viale Lazio 67 (tel. 093573361) and “Maestro d’arte” on Via Giuseppe Fiorenza 204 (tel. 3201107644). Here you can discover the their secrets or to buy some archaeological forgeries directly from their artisans
