The itinerary offers a challenging but enriching sensorial day to discover the Sicilian red vegetable: the tomato, the base of many typical Sicilian dishes. The experience starts from the fields and ends with a cooking class organized for you!
The experience starts right from the fields, from picking the tomatoes, to the kitchen where you will attend a cooking class organized just for you. From late July to mid-August, many Sicilian families dedicate their time in preparing tomato preserves which last them a whole year. The tomato should be picked, cleaned, cooked and bottled as tradition requie and it also represents a way of reliving a time of family gathering. It is possible to live this experience at an ancient farm a few kilometers from the historic center of Piazza Armerina where you can participate in both the harvesting and the preparation of the so-called “sarsa” (sauce) that will then be used as a seasoning for the dish that you are going to taste later.
When lunch is over, we recommend a visit to the historic center of Piazza Armerina or Aidone for a walk through the streets of the center enjoying the lights of the sunset after an intense day of work and emotions. Finally, it is advisable overnighting at one of the excellent facilities of the area.
