Festival of Santa Rosalia and San Prospero
Festa S. Rosalia e S. Prospero 2

The festivities in honor of Santa Rosalia and San Prospero, patrons of Centuripe are held annually September 16-19. There are processions through the city streets, musical and cultural events where the town comes to life among faith, folklore and tradition.
The presence of two patron saints follows parallel historical events. It appears that the Augustinian Fathers, who brought a relic to Centuripe towards the end of 600s from Palermo making her patron of the city, also introduced the cult of Santa Rosalia. A few years later however, the relics of San Prospero arrived in Centuripe, granted to the priest of the Centuripe cathedral, Don Pietro Ansaldo and Vicar Forane Don Arcangelo Maccarrone as requested.
Traditions celebrated for the patron saints are held on the same day. September 16 is dedicated to Santa Rosalia and in the afternoon there is a procession in honor through the main streets by car prepared for the occasion. Upon returning after Mass, the unveiling of the Patron San Prospero takes place, and to whom it is dedicated on the 17th. In the evening the reliquary bust of the saint is carried in a procession. On the 18th and 19th also dedicated to San Prospero, there is a procession with the statue of the saint who, in the two short processions is evocatively carried by the town’s youth.
