Feast of St. Lawrence – Aidone
Although   Aidone   is  a  “must – see”  destination  at  any  time  during  the year ,  going  to   the  village  on  August  10  for  the  feast  of  the Patron  Saint,   is   a unique  opportunity  to  experience  a  moment  of  great excitement.

The devotion to the Saint dates back to the 16th century, according to tradition St. Lawrence intercepted a cargo of merchandise infected by the plague and burned it to save the village. The festivities begin on July 31st, every day is dedicated to the different ecclesial and civil realities, they end on August 10 with the celebration of a Mass at 18.00 followed by a procession with the simulacrum and the relic of St. Lawrence. In occasion of the feast, tournaments, musical performances and concerts are organized and towards  the end of the evening, you can watch the strongly-awaited for fireworks show that starts at midnight on August 10, coinciding with the falling of the stars.


It is advisable to also participate in the “Palio dei Normanni” which takes place in Piazza Armerina from August 12th to the 14th, the celebrations of Maria Santissima del Ponte in Caltagirone on August 15th  and to take part in the many activities offered by the District.
