The Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) “Blood Orange of Sicily” is a mark of quality reserved for pigmented fruits which are products originating in a specific geographical area including some provinces of Catania, Enna, Ragusa and Syracuse. One of these territories is Centuripe, where the blood orange is not only a mark of quality, and a fundamental economic activity, but also a symbol of Sicily that is exported throughout Italy and around the world. It is worthy of a festival and several days of celebration. The oranges grown here have a peel with varying shades of red depending on the variety and time of harvest and sweetness of its flavor.
